FoodLab

FoodLab is a school-based program created by Nancy Wolfson-Moche designed to strengthen food literacy among students. families, and communities. Food literacy is defined as the interchange of knowledge, skills and behaviors required to select, prepare, and taste food to determine and meet nourishment needs and it is key to improving children's diet, educational attainment, and prevention of chronic disease.

Mae is excited and grateful for the opportunity to share her lifelong passion for working with food. Cooking and baking bring joy to her daily life, and provides connection with culture through food. Mae is always learning new ways to better care for her health by nurturing the mind-body connection. Mae studied graphic design & illustration at Pratt Institute and has experience working in the design world, in a catering kitchen, and with community youth support. She enjoys expressing her creativity in many different ways. Mae is excited to be a part of the FoodLab team and to work in a group setting with kids again, teaching the many ways to prepare, cook, and enjoy all the foods nature has to share with us!

A junior at Columbia Prep, Rachel is a curious learner in and out of the classroom. Always seeking to challenge herself, she runs the Model UN club at her high school, and practices Krav Maga. Cooking was Rachel's favorite summer camp activity and she would have loved to have had FoodLab at her elementary school. She loves to try new recipes and is passionate about education, both of which make Rachel a key asset to the FoodLab team.
